Leaping Liebsters

The Liebster Award

Lord David Prosser of http://bartsetshirediaries.com nominated me for the Liebster Award.  Thank you Sir!  You are a Noah’s ark of resilience and make Wales a better place.  As the only other award I have ever received (other than stuff like 10th place) ended in disaster (see my post “The Bus That Flew Over The Ravine in May 2013), I have viewed awards with a skeptical eye.  In blogland, they are kinda like “passing the tropical drink, or heart” around in Facebook.  A way to get to know one’s fellow blogbuddies.

But this takes a little work to follow these rules.  The other awards I just gave up on and chucked my posts.  But I will endeavor to make Lord David not wince with chagrin, as he certainly has a load of better choices than I.

1. Accept the award, post the picture of the Liebster Award on the top of your post and say who nominated you for the award and list their blog site.  Check

2. List 11 random facts about yourself.  I am an evangelical Christian. I am bipolar and have nutty humor that I strictly blame on this disorder. I have inflammatory arthritis. I have fibromyalgia.  I have day and night obstructive breathing disorder. I am an 18 month survivor of cancer. I have one nipple free boob from my abdomen. I have over 60 inches of scars. My favorite activity is snorkeling.  I love to sing, a lot, and I like to torture your ears with badly recorded A Capella songs.  I am a 20 year survivor of both marriage and pediatric dialysis nursing.

3. Nominate 11 other bloggers for the Liebster Award and list their blog sites. Ok, this is about impossible.  I have a ton of new ones that I just love.  But I decided to go for the ones that, not only do I love them, I love the people who write them as well.  After all, blogging is about people and relationships, well, to some. So in the spirit of relationships,  I will tell you WHY I like them.

http://gaylorddiaz’sblog.wordpress.com  –A virtual encyclopedia of Biblical truths with the kindest, truest heart I know in blogland.  Or elsewhere.  He is what Jesus envisioned in his followers.

http://amongtheashes.wordpress.com    – -sweet, sweet soul and the most talented person I have met in blogland.  Amazing works of Art, original music that she plays and sings (with a voice reminiscent of Evanescence).  Her struggle with pervasive depression is one that is close to my heart.

http://manicmuses.wordpress.com   –Witty, winsome and tells it just like it is with emotional disorders.  Love you V!  You are the bestest penpal!

http://thelostkerryman.wordpress.com   –quirky soul wrapped in a philosopher and writer who dreams of Ireland.  So do I.

http://myperfectlyimbalancedlife.wordpress.com   –amazing triumph over horrific abuse.  Soul of a poet, spirit of an artist.

http://TEN^TWELVE.wordpress.com   –wisest and most beautiful 26-year-old I have ever “Met”.

http://thereturnofthemodernphilosopher.wordpress.com   –Austin rocks!  Makes me laugh no matter what kind of day I am having. Makes me believe in True Love and fairy-tales.

http://thesentientmouse.wordpress.com   –beautiful simple poetry

http://thewarinmybrain.wordpress.com   –I just love Megan! She is a quirky soul living with OCD with as much grace and humor as she can.

http://atleastwemadeitthisfar.wordpress.com   –life as a physician going through residency in Canada with an eye on Oncology.  Go girl go!

http://culturemonk.wordpress.com   –straight at the hip from Detroit.  Don’t put that against him.  He has common sense in a crazy world.  Oh, and he likes coffee….A LOT

Honorary mention: http://rarasaur.wordpress.com   –ok, she is on everyone’s list and too busy to play this game, but that doesn’t cheapen my admiration of her and her site. Plus, she blogs naked.  Wow, talk about baring ones’…..soul  🙂

4. Notify the bloggers of their award. Ok, I think you all follow me as well, so you have been notified of a Job Well Done, and that I think you are special people!

5.Ask the award winners 11 questions to answer when they accept their Liebster Award.

Ok, here goes awardees:

What is your favorite “hanging spot”?

What is your preferred event: Fine arts or sporting events?

What is your favorite chocolate? If you don’t like chocolate, what is your favorite candy?

What part of your life would you like to do over and why?

What is the most unusual item you have ever eaten?

If you could change out a body part what would it be and why?

Do you believe there is a God? Why?

What was your best post and why?

What is your favorite blog site and why?

How long do you spend writing or reading blogs in a day’s time?

What would your name be if you put your first pet name and the first street you lived on together? IE: mine would be Brandy Tremont…sounds like a porno star LOL!

6. Answer the questions left for you by the blogger who gave you the award.

What teacher from your youth or childhood had a profound impact on you?  How?

Mr Schwartz.  He loved to teach 5th graders and it showed with every word that came out of his mouth.  He gave me some advice that I will never forget: “Lori, you are the smartest dumb person I will ever meet.  You are off sick way too much, and your grades will suffer in high school.  So stop wimping out and go to school. ” His rules for “sucking it up” have stayed with me to this day, and I am a stronger person for them.

Who is your greatest literary inspiration?

Oooo….so many.  The person who made me cry the most was Louisa May Alcott. I will never forgive her for killing off Beth.  But the author who made me who I am today is Annie Fellows Johnston for her “Little Colonel” series.  And my forever love is Jane Austen.

What is a favourite quote from another person, and what do you like about it?

“Life sucks, then you die”.  Short, pithy truth.  Thank you John Lauer.

What is a favourite quote from your own work, and what is the story behind it?

I have a knack for quotes, and I have a bunch of them.  I even have a section in my headings for original quotes.  For this second “Laughter….natures’ morphine” is pretty apropos to my life.

Tell us about one of your pets.

I have an old cat named Moki

She’s slow, lazy, arthritic and poky

If she doesn’t start using her litter box

She’s going to kitty heaven…and that’s no joke-y!

What is the greatest barrier in your life?

I have spacial dyslexia.  I can’t tell my right from my left. I am always dizzy and never blonde.  It is a disaster in places where driving on the left side of the road is the rule.  I have a doctorate in getting lost.  I get anxious at the thought of going somewhere new that I am unfamiliar with.  The tried and true is safe, boring and boxes my leaping into unknown territories to dreams and fantasyland.

Where is your favorite travel destination?  Why? Atlantis.  Pure joy.  Getting lost is a great adventure there.  And, after 8 trips, I still get lost with eager regularity.

What is the most interesting place near where you live? What makes it interesting?

Umm…I live in Kansas City.  Nope, nothing springs to mind.

What is your writing space like?

I blog in a maroon leather recliner with my feet up and my laptop on my legs.  It’s actually pretty comfy.

When you were eight, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Not a clue.  I don’t think I thought that far ahead.

What is your goal for your writing?

I initially started as an exercise to help with short-term memory loss sustained from unknown causes, although 11 possibilities have been identified.  Probably some part of each are contributing to it.  Alzheimer’s meds are a blessing.  Before I started blogging, I would draw a blank wall trying to remember simple words.  And it has helped not only my recall, but has made me a better person, stretched myself into “poetry”, recording, commentaries and observations, life stories, random events.  An amazing journey since August and I am thankful for it.

  1. I’m honoured by your fantastic response. I was surprised just how much we have in common health wise but you can certainly cross off the nipple free boob from my list.
I hope Kansas City forgives you for that remark !
    Sending Huge Hugs. xxxx

  2. Awwww, thanks for the kind words, Lori. With all that you’re faced with, you get up every morning, suck it in, and go about your day with an undying faith in God and a determination to do what you need to do today. A lot of times, you get the feeling that life sucks. But to those of us who know, love, value, and appreciate you, you are incredibly inspiring. Our life and our world wouldn’t be the same without you. So hang in there, Lori, and may God shower you with all the grace you need for each and every moment of every day. May you always know His love and His presence.

    • I often go to your site for inspiration and finding verses. You have an amazing blog that should be the example and “go to” for adjunct reading with devotionals. You bring real life meaning to passages that are confusing and difficult to understand for lay persons. So I try and promote you whenever I can! You are an example of what a true Christian should be, a light in the world and the salt of the earth, and will be rewarded for your faithful service and running the race. Tell Mrs Diaz that your blog, while time consuming (obvious with the content and detail), is a blessing to others!

I'm interested in your thoughts and ideas!
